In 2026, Shopify includes many B2B features on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus without a separate B2B add-on. Some advanced capabilities remain plan-specific, so a B2B store no longer requires Plus by default. The correct plan depends on the exact catalogue, company and payment requirements.
Basic, Grow and Advanced can suit a simpler B2B operation with up to three active catalogues across B2B markets. Consider Plus when the project needs unlimited catalogues, direct assignment to companies or locations, deposits or partial payments.
Shopify announced this expansion on 2 April 2026: company profiles, up to three active catalogues across B2B markets, quantity rules, stored cards and payment terms are available on Basic, Grow and Advanced as well as Plus. On lower plans, B2B catalogue management is tied to the new Shopify Markets. Plus adds unlimited catalogues and direct assignment to a company or location; deposits and partial payments also remain Plus features. A smaller wholesale operation can therefore delay the Plus decision until it reaches a specific limit.
The Shopify B2B model
Shopify organises a B2B customer as a company with one or more locations. Each company can have multiple locations, buyers and rules. Catalogues determine which products and prices are available, while quantity rules can define minimums, maximums and increments.
| Element | Practical meaning |
|---|---|
| Company | The business organisation that buys |
| Company location | A location with its own addresses, buyers and terms |
| Catalogue | Products and prices available to a specific group |
| Quantity rules | Minimums, maximums and order increments |
| Volume pricing | Price breaks based on ordered quantity |
Blended or dedicated B2B store?
A blended store serves B2C and B2B customers in one storefront. It shares products and operations while applying rules for business customers. A dedicated B2B store can have separate content, catalogues and workflows. The first approach simplifies administration; the second creates clearer separation but increases operational complexity.
Brand, assortment, logistics, team and whether the B2B customer needs a significantly different shopping experience influence the decision. It is not appropriate to separate stores just for the impression of a "big enterprise solution".
When Shopify Plus might make sense
- The project needs functions or capacities available only in a higher plan
- An organization manages multiple stores and teams in a broader operating model
- The order process, automation or B2B operation have advanced requirements
- The difference in conditions and operation is defensible with real data
- Both the technical and commercial team have the capacity to use advanced capabilities
Plus may not make sense while the store still has an unclear catalogue structure, inconsistent data or a weak mobile experience. A higher plan will not solve problems caused by the brief, content or internal processes.
B2B relies on data and integrations
Business customers expect correct pricing, availability, billing information and history. If the source data is in ERP or PIM, synchronization needs to be clearly designed. Customer login, permissions and order testing in individual roles are also critical.
Some features may be incompatible with B2B or require different settings. For example, Shopify notes in its documentation the limitations of some expedited payments, subscriptions, and apps. Current compatibility must be verified before implementation, not at launch.
Questions before deciding
Companies, locations, buyers, approvers and their permissions.
Catalogue, contract pricing, quantity, currency and approval rules.
Products, inventory, customers, orders and accounting workflows.
Separate a necessary process from a habit inherited from the old system.
Shopify Plus is a tool, not a strategy. It only brings value when it solves a specific operational or business need.
Frequently asked questions
When does Shopify Plus make economic sense?
When the business actually uses more advanced operational or business capabilities and their benefits outweigh the higher cost of the plan. Turnover alone without knowledge of the processes is not a sufficient decision criterion.
Can B2B and B2C be combined in one shop?
Shopify supports shared and separate layouts. The choice depends on product range, pricing, content, team, integrations and the desired business and end customer experience.
Is every B2B feature only available on Shopify Plus?
No. Basic, Grow and Advanced support core B2B features and up to three active catalogues across B2B markets. Plus adds unlimited catalogues, direct assignment to companies or locations, deposits and partial payments.
