Status as of 28 July 2026: According to the official documentation, Shopify Payments is available for companies based in the Czech Republic. Slovakia is not included in the list of supported countries. A Slovak store must therefore choose a provider for card payments available in its Shopify admin and verify its currencies, terms and fees.
What Shopify Payments offers in the Czech Republic
Czech companies can activate Shopify Payments directly in the Shopify admin after meeting the conditions. Included are supported payment cards and accelerated payments Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Shopify also lists selected local payment methods, the display of which depends on the customer's country and other conditions.
Service availability does not mean automatic approval of every business. Upon activation, the person and company are verified, and some business categories or product types may have restrictions according to the terms of service.
How Slovak stores should approach payments
If the country is not on the official Shopify Payments list, Shopify recommends using an external payment provider. Gateway offerings may vary by country, currency and store type. The current list in Settings →︎ Payments of a specific store is decisive, not the older list in the article or discussion forum.
The external provider can work directly in the checkout or redirect the customer to their own payment page. Before choosing a provider, it is necessary to verify the customer's purchase process, refunds, supported currencies, payouts, chargebacks and accounting integration.
| Area | Czechia | Slovakia |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Payments | Supported subject to conditions | As of 28 July 2026, it is not on the list of countries |
| Card payments | Shopify Payments or a third-party provider | Third-party provider available to the store |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | Available through Shopify Payments | It depends on the chosen provider |
| Shop Pay | Available with Shopify Payments | Not available without Shopify Payments |
| Fees | Processing according to plan and method | Provider plus any Shopify fee |
Payment provider and Shopify fees
With an external gateway, the store can pay a fee to its operator as well as a Shopify transaction fee. Shopify's rate depends on the plan and specific situation. Manually processed payments, for example bank transfer or cash on delivery, have a different regime in the documentation.
Therefore, the comparison must not work only with the percentage indicated by the provider. Factor in monthly costs, transaction fees, currency conversion, chargebacks, card transaction claims, payout deadlines, and team work to match payments.
Choosing the payment methods customers need
More payment buttons do not automatically mean a better shopping process. The selection should be based on customer countries, average order value, share of mobile visits, currencies and order processing method.
- Cards and accelerated mobile payments
- Payment in the currency the customer expects
- Bank transfer or cash on delivery if they correspond to traffic
- Clear behavior for failed or pending payment
- Refunds and partial refunds in Shopify admin
- Matching of payments, orders and accounting documents
- Test orders for all important countries and currencies
Test the complete checkout flow
Test product, cart, discount, shipping, payment, confirmation email, refund and checkout. For foreign sales, change the customer's address and currency. Some local methods are displayed based on its location, not based on the store location.
The payment method is not ready at the time it appears in the checkout. It is only ready when the team can match the order, return it and solve it in the event of an error.
What to check just before choosing
Supported countries, methods and conditions may change. Before making a decision, check the official list of Shopify, the offer directly in the Shopify admin and the terms and conditions of the provider. This article is not financial or legal advice.
