Shopify Plus.
When it makes sense
and when it doesn't.

Shopify's enterprise plan. A lot of what used to sell it now runs on lower plans — so it is worth asking specifically what your store would actually use it for.

Decision criteria

Who Plus fits
and who it doesn't.

The decision does not rest on revenue, but on whether you need specific things lower plans cannot do. If two or more points on the left apply, Plus is worth costing out.

Plus makes sense when…

  • You need a custom app with Shopify Functions — cart validation, hiding delivery or payment options conditionally, or non-trivial discount logic. This is a hard wall, not a nice-to-have.
  • You want a second storefront for another country, brand or wholesale channel.
  • In B2B you hit the three-catalog limit, or need pricing assigned to a specific company, deposits or partial payments.
  • Integrations with ERP, PIM or a warehouse are running into API limits.
  • You operate more stores or warehouses than lower plans cover.
  • You use a third-party payment gateway and the 0.6% fee is material at your volume.

Plus can wait when…

  • You run one store, one market and a standard checkout. Advanced covers that.
  • You are dealing with untidy data, content or a weak mobile experience. A higher plan does not fix those, it just costs more.
  • Your B2B needs are met by three catalogs and basic company profiles — both on all plans since April 2026.
  • You want Plus for the badge. Customers cannot tell which plan you are on.
  • You lack the capacity to use those capabilities. Plus is infrastructure, not an outcome in itself.
Plus vs lower plans

What Plus actually adds
in 2026.

Through 2026 a lot of capability moved down to lower plans. The table below keeps only what is a real difference today — not what Plus was sold on two years ago.

What Plus is not needed for: Checkout Extensibility, checkout UI extensions, Shopify Flow, Markets or core B2B. All of those run on lower plans. If someone is pitching you Plus on the strength of these, keep asking questions.

Cost

What Plus costs
and what to add to it.

The plan fee is only part of the budget. On most projects the larger line item is development, integration with local systems and ongoing maintenance.

€2,100per month on a three-year term
€2,250per month on a one-year term
€250per month for each store beyond 10

These figures are published by Shopify for the European market. They include the main store and nine expansion stores, unlimited staff accounts and priority support.

On top of the plan you need to budget payment processing, apps and above all implementation — theme work, data migration, integrations and testing. In the first year implementation is usually the larger cost.

Above high volumes Shopify switches from a fixed fee to one derived from revenue. It publishes neither the rate nor the threshold, and the numbers circulating online are mostly out of date. Insist on getting the terms in writing from Shopify's sales team.
How migration runs

What the move
actually involves.

Moving up from a lower Shopify plan is a matter of weeks, because no data is migrated. Arriving from another platform is a project measured in months. The usual cause of delay is not development but untidy product data and checkout requirements discovered late.

01 Audit and scope

What the store does today, which apps and integrations are in play, and what stops or starts making sense on Plus.

02 Architecture

Store structure, B2B model, checkout logic and data flows. This is where it is decided what becomes a Function, an app, or stays in the theme.

03 Build and data

Theme, custom functionality, integrations and data transfer. In parallel, the redirect map, so search rankings survive.

04 Testing and launch

The order process end to end, on real combinations. Followed by a period of close attention after go-live.

Projects where I worked
on Shopify Plus.

On both projects I worked as a developer — at Posedla within the Appfleece agency team and later directly with the brand, at Facederma as part of the project team.

Jakub has helped us build and grow our Shopify store both as a freelancer and as part of an agency. He has a great working attitude and is always looking for out-of-the-box solutions. I can highly recommend Jakub to any Shopify store owner.

On one client's Shopify Plus store he took ownership of a B2B subproject end to end: he led it independently, dealt directly with a demanding client, and came back not with reasons why something couldn't be done, but with a real, workable solution.

Frequently asked

What people ask
most often.

Answers are based on what Shopify itself publishes. Where it publishes nothing, I say so plainly.

At what revenue does Shopify Plus pay off?

Revenue on its own is not the deciding criterion. The one reliably calculable reason is the third-party gateway fee: Plus charges 0.2%, Advanced 0.6%. The difference breaks even roughly where the saving on fees exceeds the difference in plan cost. Otherwise Plus is decided by the need for specific capabilities, not by size of revenue.

What does Shopify Plus cost?

For the European market Shopify publishes €2,250 per month on a one-year term and €2,100 per month on a three-year term. That includes the main store and 9 expansion stores; each additional store is €250 per month. Above high volumes Shopify moves to a fee derived from revenue, and publishes neither the rate nor the threshold.

Can I customise checkout without Shopify Plus?

Largely yes. Checkout Extensibility and checkout UI extensions work on all plans, as do Functions delivered by a public App Store app. Plus is required for a custom app containing Shopify Functions, and for deeper checkout branding.

B2B is on lower plans now. Why pay for Plus?

Since 2 April 2026 company profiles, up to three catalogs, volume pricing and payment terms are on all plans. Plus adds an unlimited number of catalogs, direct catalog assignment to a company or location, deposits and partial payments. If three catalogs cover you, you do not need Plus for B2B.

How long does migrating to Shopify Plus take?

Moving up from a lower Shopify plan is usually a matter of weeks, since no data is migrated. Coming from another platform takes months, depending on catalog size, number of integrations and whether B2B or multiple markets are involved. The usual cause of delay is not development but untidy product data.

Will migration cost us search rankings?

Only with a faulty redirect map. If the URL structure is preserved or 301 redirects are set up properly, any dip tends to be temporary. Expect a few weeks before results settle, and note that customers moving from another platform have to reset their passwords.
